Department of Rheumatology
Department of Rheumatology at Central Park Medical College has been founded with the shared vision of management and faculty to provide standard care to patients suffering from devastating rheumatic diseases from all walks of life.
Rheumatology is a branch of Internal Medicine dealing with medical conditions of bones, muscles and joints. These diseases can be broadly classified into inflammatory and degenerative diseases. According to WHO-ILAR COPCORD survey conducted by our team on prevalence of musculoskeletal (MSK) pain in a semi-urban community of Lahore, every fourth person in the community was reported to have MSK pain. Rheumatic diseases are one of the major causes of disability worldwide. They range from degenerative diseases to multi-system auto-immune diseases which can be life threatening. Every tertiary care hospital should have a dedicated rheumatology department but un-fortunately very few teaching hospitals in Pakistan have any such facility.
The faculty comprising of three full time consultants and two internationally acclaimed visiting Professors is dedicated to provide state of the art patient care facilities. Faculty is actively involved in under and post-graduate teaching, training and research. Department is offering fellowship training in specialty of Rheumatology.
The department is one of sites contributing to Asia Pacific League of Association’s (APLAR) Spondyloarthritis (SpA) Registry. Faculty is also part of a collaborative project of Arthritis Care Foundation and National Institute of Health (NIH), USA working on natural history and genetics of Lupus.
Faculty is jointly working with Arthritis Care Foundation a registered charity for welfare of less privileged arthritis patients and time to time organizes public awareness walks, symposiums and conferences for continuous medical education of health care professionals
