Department of Anatomy
The subject of Anatomy forms the pivotal axis of medical sciences at both under and post-graduation levels. The Department of Anatomy at CPMC strives to deliver advanced knowledge of human structures and their basic clinical information. It is located on the first and second floors of basic sciences block “B” of the college. It comprises multiple sections:
• Dissection Hall
• Museum
• Histology Laboratory
• Lecture Theater
• Demonstration Room
• Multimedia Room
Dissection Hall: It is situated on the first floor and is capacious enough to accommodate as many as 10 mortuary tables for group dissections. It is well-ventilated and sufficiently equipped with all necessary facilities like mortuary refrigerators (cadavers preserving machines), computers, multimedia, and illuminators, etc. A large number of prosecuted cadaveric specimens are available for hands-on experience for individual students. The hall is annexed with a demonstration room and a bone preparation/embalming section.
Museum: This is present on the second floor and contains an overwhelming number of imported models depicting histology, gross anatomy, and development of the human body, including full-size torsos and skeletons. The unique feature of the anatomy museum of CPMC is the display of more than 100 models pertaining to CT and MRI slices of the human body. The museum is well furnished with vivid pictorial charts and a study arrangement of 35 students at a time. The museum has a separate multimedia room with a sitting capacity of 15 students at a time for small group discussions. The multimedia room is further equipped with the latest projector and a set of CDs to conduct tutorials. In addition, prepared individual human bones are also available to the students for study. The departmental bone bank is having 35 cadaveric and imported synthetic skeletal sets of bones to assist faculty and students in teaching/ learning Anatomy.
Histology Laboratory: A Spacious and aerated laboratory can accommodate as many as 50 students at a time. It is fully equipped with a Penta head teaching microscope, a stereo microscope with a camera, and CCTV. It has ten sets of 100 slides in each, of all tissues.
Departmental Library: The Department has its own library with the latest editions of general anatomy, gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, histology, embryology, Anatomy MCQs, and Anatomy SEQs Books. It has also the availability of soft copies of some books which are easily accessible for students and faculty. The department further works in collaboration with the central college library teeming with multifarious recommended books and side study reference literature, directing the nurturing of young minds to imbibe knowledge and grow.
