The mission of the department is to train and develop medical students and post graduate trainees as expert doctors and researchers. The department of surgery gets involved with medical students right from first year whereby students get to learn clinical aspects of anatomy and are taught basic skills and also get to see cases in the minor operation theatre and emergency. By third year pathology is integrated with principles of surgery. By fourth year and final year senior faculty members take lectures, clinical demonstrations and tests regularly. Images from the operation theatre are relayed to the demo rooms. We encourage students to scrub in with the surgical team. We integrate education and research with clinical services. We also develop the students to contribute towards the advancement of surgical and allied services in Pakistan and globally.
The department is recognized by CPSP for post graduate training.
